When a Loved One Is Accused of Causing Harm

In the aftermath of the MeToo movement, many people have been compelled to reconcile with the fact that their loved ones have caused harm to others by perpetrating gender-based violence or relationship abuse. It can be difficult to know how to respond when a loved one is accused of causing harm. One may feel obligated to prioritise social responsibility over their need to process feelings of shock, betrayal, and fear. If the perpetrator is a family member, it can be even more complicated to understand how to navigate such a situation.

The Centre for Restoration works on issues of gender-based violence from a research-backed, trauma-informed lens. Through this online workshop, we want to empower the immediate communities of perpetrators to understand violence, build resilience, and be effective bystanders.

What You’ll Discover:

  • Understanding effective accountability for situations of gender-based violence
  • Insights into harm mitigation
  • Unpacking social ostracisation; whether it is necessary and what to do in situations where it is impossible
  • Practical tips for taking care of yourself
  • A sense of belonging and solidarity within our supportive community
