  • Not believing in the dominant discourse with regards to sex. Pleasure shouldn't only be for bodies with penises. Sex is not about procreation (we have enough tiny humans) but mutual consensual pleasure. I am also Kink Positive.

  • Being a part of the community, as I identify as a Non Binary Lesbian makes answering this question a bit difficult. Understanding how socio-culturally our ideas about our sexuality and gender are socialised and how we end up experiencing a lot of internalised homo and trans negativity, makes one a good enough Ally. Also not making queers do queer labour and doing your own research and sensitising oneself is very important.

  • Outcomes are very unique to each individual, thus it's not for me to decide. Some things that can be kept in consideration are - helping them understand and provide tools to help them regulate their nervous system. Working through "Guilt" and "Shame" (also the toxic kind). Helping them understand their emotions and build compassion for self.

  • It depends on how the client is doing. Crisis management session and trauma processing sessions are very different. Some basic things I do - check how their nervous system is doing, using body based relaxation and breathing exercises to regulate, ensure they are able to sit with the distress that is coming up, probably give some cognitive or body based exercise as a homework for them to stay connected to therapeutic material outside of sessions. Some sessions, i just listen and create a safe space.
