  • Sex positivity means holding space and acceptance for all kinds of sexual desires and experiences that involve consent. Sexuality, culturally is an area that is filled with stigma and shame. This makes it all the more important for therapy to be sex positive because it can be the only such space in the lives of many. This, for me, involves curiosity, knowledge to help clients with information, support and resources, the ability to respect and affirm different forms that human sexuality takes, and the ability to constantly question and engage with our own beliefs and biases as a part of learning and growth.

  • Being an ally, to me, means questioning the cis heteronormative system that we live in, acknowledging and affirming the harm it does, equipping myself with knowledge and resources, and keeping my heart open to perspectives and stories that help me question the heteronormative templates of love and life that most of us have internalised as people who live in this world. I believe empathy and the ability to introspect are the two strongest tools of an ally.

  • Trauma therapy needs to be a space in which survivors get to fully connect with the intensity of harm that they have been subjected to in a safe manner. This involves seeing and acknowledging the impact of the harm on their lives, reconnecting with their body, holding space for the expression of their voice which may involve feeling all kinds of intense emotions, equipping them with emotional and environmental tools (grounding techniques, support resources, etc) required to navigate the trauma, exploring and discovering what justice means to them and integrating the painful experience.

  • Sessions with me are centred around client needs. I value understanding clients and the relationship far more than techniques in therapy because a lot of healing happens through the therapeutic alliance. I am generally quite flexible, empathetic, curious and welcoming of suggestions and feedback (this helps me ensure the process is tailor made for clients). My process is not rigid in structure but I find it helpful to discuss goals of therapy and discuss shifts that clients see in themselves regularly.
