  • Sex positivity is a philosophical approach that promotes a non-judgmental and affirming attitude towards diverse expressions of sexuality. It advocates for the celebration and acceptance of consensual sexual behaviours, orientations, preferences, and identities. At its core, sex positivity emphasises the importance of consent, recognising that all sexual activities should be based on the explicit agreement and enthusiastic participation of all parties involved. It seeks to challenge societal stigmas and norms surrounding sex, aiming to create an environment where individuals feel empowered, validated, and free from shame or discrimination based on their sexual choices. By fostering open dialogue, education, and understanding, sex positivity strives to create a culture that respects and values the sexual autonomy and well-being of all individuals.

  • Being an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community means supporting, advocating for, and respecting the rights and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and other diverse sexual orientation and gender identity individuals. It involves educating oneself, listening empathetically, challenging prejudice, amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices, advocating for equality and inclusion, and offering support and respect.

  • Trauma therapy aims to bring positive changes to survivors' lives in various areas. These changes include reducing distressing symptoms such as flashbacks and panic attacks, improving emotional regulation skills, rebuilding self-esteem and self-worth, restoring a sense of safety and empowerment, healing from traumatic memories, and enhancing interpersonal relationships. Therapy addresses individual needs and goals, promoting well-being, resilience, and a sense of control over one's life.

  • During a typical session with me, we start by building a trusting relationship and creating a safe space. We chat casually to establish rapport and make sure the client feels comfortable opening up. Next, I check in with the client to see how they've been since our last session. This gives them the opportunity to share any significant events, experiences, or emotions that have been on their mind.

We then discuss the goals and objectives for the session. We focus on what the client wants to work on, whether it's reducing symptoms, improving emotional regulation, or addressing self-esteem issues. If the client is ready, we delve into processing their traumatic experiences. I provide guidance and support as they share their memories and emotions. We might use techniques like guided imagery, cognitive processing, or narrative therapy to help them heal and find resolution.

I also teach the client coping skills and techniques to manage distressing symptoms and regulate their emotions. We practice deep breathing exercises, grounding techniques, and mindfulness together. I encourage them to practice these skills outside of our sessions to reinforce their effectiveness.

Throughout our session, I actively listen to the client, offering empathy and validation. I ask open-ended questions to help them explore their thoughts, feelings, and reactions related to their trauma. This reflective process allows them to gain insights and challenge negative beliefs. I may assign the client homework or activities to complete between sessions. These assignments can involve practicing coping skills, journaling, or engaging in self-care activities. This helps extend our therapeutic work beyond our sessions and supports their ongoing progress and growth.

As our session comes to a close, we review what we discussed and summarise the key takeaways. We also plan for the next session, addressing any questions or concerns the client may have.

Our sessions are tailored to the specific needs and progress of the client. I adapt the session to meet them where they are and help them navigate their healing journey.
