Qualifications

M.A. in Clinical Psychology

  • An affirmative worldview of sex, sexuality and gender. Being able to provide a safe space to explore and embody individual sexual identities in the absence of shame and judgement. Acknowledgement and acceptance of diversity in sexual styles, preferences and interpretations. Sex positivity challenges deeply ingrained perceptions of normality, and hence, requires an active and conscious effort on the part of each individual to inform and educate themselves.

  • Being an LGBTQIA+ ally does not restrict to being simply affirmative. Acceptance involves support and encouragement. It does not simply involve living peacefully in a queer affirmative stance, rather going a step ahead to make the world a better and more accepting place for LGBTQIA+ folks. Being an ally is an ongoing process of creating spaces where LGBTQIA+ individuals are valued and respected.

  • Re-establishing a sense of biological and psychological safety should be one of the key outcomes of trauma therapy. Building awareness, identifying triggers, working on harmful coping patterns that may have developed as a result of the traumatic experience are some other outcomes in the therapy space. All these, with somatic work, help with trauma processing and integration and resilience building. Helping the client build a safe network of social support is also a key outcome.

  • A typical session is about 45-50 minutes. The initial focus is on developing a healthy rapport, which provides a safe space for the client to connect. Sessions may involve somatic work, repetitive stabilisation and co-regulation all throughout. Talk therapy in conjunction with somatic work is used to help clients achieve their goals in a collaborative process.
